Bob’s Bridge Cheat Sheet
Opening Bids:
a)    Balanced hand 1 nt 15-17; 2nt 20-21
b)    Longest Major suit 5+ cards12-21
c)     Longest minor suit 12-21 may be 3 cards; with two 3-card minors, open 1

Response to 1 nt
a)    0-7 with 5+ card major suit – transfer and pass.
b)    0-7 no 5-card major suit - pass
c)     8-9 with 4-card major suit employ Stayman convention and invite game.
d)    8-9 with no 4-card major suit – bid 2 nt to invite game.
e)    10-15 with 5-card major suit – transfer , then bid 3nt
f)      10-15 with 6-card major suit – transfer , then bid game in that suit.
g)    10-15 with 4-card major suit – employ Stayman convention-bid game in major suit with a fit, bid 3nt         without a fit.
h)    10-15 no 4-card or longer major suit-bid 3nt.
i)      16+ carefully explore slam possibilities.

Response to 1♣ or 1
a)    0-5 – pass
b)    6+ - Bid 4-card suits up the line; 5+ card suits bid longest first or with two 5-card suits bid highest ranking suit first.  
c)     Balanced hand, no 4-card or longer major 6-10 – bid 1nt; 11-12 – bid 2nt; 13-15 - bid 3 nt.
d)    With 4+ cards in opener’s minor suit and no 4-card or longer major opener’s suit
a.      6-10 – raise to 2-level
b.     10-13 – raise to 3-level

Response to 1or 1♠ (with 3+ cards in opener’s suit, revalue for dummy points)
a)    0-5 – pass
b)    6-10 – raise to 2-level
c)     11-12 – raise to 3-level
d)    13-17 – raise to 4-level
e)    18+ carefully explore for slam.

Response to 1or 1♠ (with no fit)
a)    0-5 pass
b)    6-10 – bid 1 with 4+ cards, if partner opened 1 otherwise bid 1 nt.
c)     11+ - bid a 5-card suit at the 2-level.

Opener’s Rebids (minimum hand 12-15)
a)    Raise responder’s suit one level, with 4-card or better support (Revalue hand for dummy points).
b)    Bid a new 4-card or longer suit at the 1-level.
c)     Bid 1 nt with a balanced hand.
d)    Bid a new suit at the 2-level, ranking below the opening suit.
e)    Rebid a 6+ card suit at the minimum level.
f)      If responder has bid 1nt – pass
g)    If responder had bid 3nt – pass
h)    Raise a 2nt response to 3nt, with 14 or 15, pass with 12 or 13.
i)      Pass a single raise of opener’s suit.
j)      Bid game after a jump raise of opener’s suit with 14 or 15, pass with 12 or 13.

Opener’s Rebids (medium hand 16-18)
a)    Raise responder’s major suit 2-levels, with 4+ cards (revalue for dummy points)
b)    Bid a new 4+card suit, ranking higher than the opening suit.
c)     Bid 2nt with a balanced hand and 18 points.
d)    Rebid opening suit with 6+ cards.
e)    If responder bids 1nt – raise to the 2-level.
f)      If responder bids 2nt – raise to the 3-level.
g)    If responder bids 3nt – pass.
h)    If responder raises opener’s suit 1level – invite game.

Opener’s Rebids (Maximum hand 19-21)
a)    Raise responder’s major suit to 4-level, with 4+ cards (revalue for dummy points)
b)    Bid a new 4+ card suit by jumping a complete level.
c)     Bid no trump by jumping a complete level, with a balanced hand.
d)    Rebid the opening suit at game level, with 7 cards.
e)    If responder raised opening suit – bid game in that suit.
f)      If responder bid 1nt – bid 3nt.
